I have recently been doing some internet digging and have found lots of information on the Scott/Jeffery/Woods sides
of the families. As I come across photos from these sides of the families, I will include them on this page. I
hope you are all enjoying this family history as much as I am!

| James Allen & Mary Catherine Jeffery Scott Family |
Sondra Smith gave me this photo at the JNS Reunion 2006. Through a process of elimination I believe
the people in the photo are:
Back Row: Elbert Felix, William Jasper, Charles Jackson, David Melton and James Newton Scott.
Front Row: Mary Sarena, James Allen, Mary Catherine Jeffery, and Fannie Elizabeth Scott.
I am guessing the photo was taken between 1898 and the very early 1900's as David Melton died in 1930 at
the age of 63 and he appears much younger than that in this photo.
| The Woods Clan - 1905 |

|
This photo was taken in 1905, and also appears to be taken at the Old Woods Place. The back of the photo
was marked as follows: Newt, Ruby, Elbert, Delbert, Allen, Coley, Great Grandma Woods (Olliff Elizabeth
Melton Woods), Willie Woods (behind Olliff & to her left), Luther Woods (standing behind &
between Olliff E. & John A. Woods), Great Grandpa Woods (John Alexander Woods), Bessie and Bertie.
Delbert and Elbert would be the twin infants, and Coley & Allen are in front of
Ruby & J. Newt, Coley is in the pants and Allen in the dress. There are more people in the picture than there
are names listed.

| Mattie Wyatt Scott Woods |

|
| Mother of Jesse Bryan, wife of Ely Washington Scott |
Mattie Wyatt (1878-1905) married Ely Washington Scott, brother of James Newton
Scott. They had one son, Jesse Bryan Scott. Ely was killed in Indian
Territory (now known as Oklahoma) when he was 23 years of age. Mattie then remarried William
Isaac "Willie" Woods, brother of Ruby Lillian Woods Scott. They had no children together.
Mattie died in 1905, and some time later, Willie Woods married Ora Daniels.
They had two children, J.A., and Alma Lois. Upon Willie's death,
(which was a suicide), Ora then married Grover Woods, who was the brother of both
Willie and Ruby Woods Scott.

| Jesse Bryan Scott in WWI Uniform |

|
| Son of Eli & Mattie Wyatt Scott |
Eli Washington Scott, (1873-1898), was the 6th son born to James Allen & Mary
Catherine Jeffery Scott. He was born in Montgomery, AR. He married Mattie Wyatt (no
info available) in Indian Territory, the year is unknown. Eli was killed in Indian Territory (now known
as Oklahoma) on July 23, 1898 at the age of 23. His widow, re-married William Isaac Woods (1878-1945),
who was the younger brother of Ruby Lillian Woods Scott. Mattie died in either 1904
or 1905. Eli and Mattie had one son, Jesse Bryan Scott, born in Indian
Territory in January 1897. After Mattie died, Jesse went to live with James
Allen & Mary Catherine Jeffery Scott, his paternal grandparents. During the summers, he would spend his
time with J. Newt & Ruby Scott's family, as he was close to the ages of their boys, Bill &
Coley. Jesse apparently did serve in the US Armed Forces during WWI, as we have his photograph
in his uniform. I cannot find any other information on him.
Mary Jo (daughter-in-law of Elbert & Gertrude, wife of James
Delbert) recalls that Jesse lived in Brownwood. Jesse operated several cafes
in town. He had the Old Dixie Cafe down by the depot, and some years later he had another one down on Coggin.
JD and Mary Jo were friends with Jesse's daughters, Dorothy Emmaline
and Juanita. They lived with Jesse and his wife Clara. Juanita
gave JD and Mary Jo their first stroller for their son James.

| Daniel Newton Scott |

|
| photo courtsey of: E. Turner (1998) |
Daniel Newton Scott - (4/8/1854-2/18/1928) is the brother of James Allen Scott and the uncle of James Newton
Scott. Below is an newspaper article written about Daniel Newton Scott.
"Daniel Newton Scott: The agricultural affairs of Montgomery County, Ark., are ably represented among others,
by Mr. Scott, who comes of a well known family, the Scotts of Kentucky.
He was born in this county in 1854, to John and Susannah (Earp) Scott, the former born on Blue-Grass
soil in 1818, and his wife a few years later, the nuptials of their marriage being celebrated in Tennessee, from which Slate
they came to Montgomery County, Ark., some forty odd years ago, settled on land on the Caddo River, of which they made a good
farm.
Mr. Scott was a lieutenant
in Capt. Erwin's company Fourth Infantry Arkansas troops in the Trans. Mississippi Department, and was in the battle of Elk Horn, besides many others. His parents died when he was a small boy, and he was thus left with but little knowledge of his ancestors. He was for many years a member of the Missiousry Baptist Church, and diad in 1888.
His wife's father was an early settler
of Polk County, Ark., and in that county he died prior to the war. Daniel Newton Scott was the eighth of
eleven children born to his parents, and at the age of four years he was left without a mother's care and guidance. He was
reared on a farm educated in the common shools of the neighborhood, also spending one year in the University of Arkansas,
at Fayetteville. Two of his brothers served in Erwin's company, in the Confederate Army, William J., dying
while in the service, the other brother, James A., coming through unharmed.
Daniel N. was first
married in 1877 to Frances, the daughter of Thomas and Sallie Gore, but
she died in Montgomery County, Ark., in 1880, having borne three children, two now living.
Mr. Scott's second marriage took place in 1888, the maiden name of his wife being Holly Gray,
daughter of Robert and Eveline Gray, who came from Georgia to Clark County, Ark., later becoming residents
of Montgomery County, where Mr. Gray still lives, his wife having passed from life in Clark County, where Mrs. Scott was born. He and Mrs. Scott have two children.
Since his first marriage Mr Scott has lived on his farm of 160 acres, 65 of which he has cleared by his own
efforts, considerable of his attention being given to stock-raising also. Two of his brothers, James and
Robert, reside in Texas. His sister, Sarah A.,
is the wife of James Moore, and Elizabeth is the wife of John Hickey."

| Ann A. Earp Woods and John Wesley Scott |
John Wesley Scott (2/22/1818-3/21/1888) and Ann A. Earp Woods(1/13/1824-5/29/1903).
John Wesley married Ann A. Earp after the death of his first wife, Susannah.
Susannah and Ann were sisters. Ann was born in Tennessee on Jan. 13, 1824, and died
in Norman, Montgomery, AR on May 29, 1903. Ann was also married to a James Woods,
who was born in Tennessee in 1807. She was married to James prior to being married to John
Wesley. She was the daughter of Mary "Polly" Stogsdill and Allen M. Earp.
Ann & John Wesley had three children: Susannah A. "Nin" (8/2/1860-11/12/1902),
Malinda (4/29/1863-????), and Mary Ann "Polly" (11/29/1865-9/18/1922).
This marriage between John Wesley & Ann made her step-mother and aunt to John

| Musical Woods Men |

|
| 1901 |
This photo was marked on the back as taken in 1901. It had the following written on the back as well:
"#1 Newt Scott, #2 Grover Woods". However the front of the photo does not indicate who is who in the
picture. This photo appears to be taken at the "Old Woods Place", home of John Alexander & Olliff
Elizabeth Woods, mother of Ruby Lillian Woods Scott. Connie Woods Henson,
(daughter of John Edward Woods (Ruby's younger brother Ed), says the young man on the front row, 2nd from
left, holding the fiddle is her father, Ed Woods. Jack (Elbert), says he believes
the man to the right with the lighter colored jacket on and wide brimmed hat is J. Newt Scott. He does
not recognize anybody else in the photo tho. Mary Jo (James Elbert/JD) tells me that she recalls that
the Woods side of the family was very musical and enjoyed getting together on Saturday nights for live music and fun.
If anyone knows who these fine looking young men are, please let me know.
